Helping the elderly
Ageing is one of the greatest social and economic challenges of the 21st century for European societies. As reported by the European Commission, by 2025 more than 20% of Europeans will be 65 or over, with a particularly rapid increase in numbers of over 80s. The cost of taking care of the aged is a concern for all the citizens in Europe.
City4Age addresses the issue of the “well-being” of the ageing population in various ways:
• Lowering costs (of monitoring, intervention, care…) through an extensive use of technology
• Devising systems for early detection of Mild Cognitive Impairment and Frailty and for timely preventive intervention
• Creating technology-enhanced channels of communication (using mobile and home installations): the elderly feel being “taken care of”, and their life style can be improved
